Národní muzeum v roce 2018 slaví 200 let od svého založení. Muzeum založila skupina české aristokracie, soukromá společnost, jejíž vůdčí osobností byl Kašpar Maria hrabě ze Šternberka, významná osobnost přírodovědy přelomu 18. a 19. století. Sbírkové a výstavní aktivity muzea byly dlouhodobě komplikovány nedostatečnými prostorami, teprve koncem 19. stol. byla postavena reprezentační budova a na přelomu 20. a 21. stol. získalo muzeum moderní sbírkové depozitáře a výzkumné laboratoře v areálu v Horních Počernicích.

This year the National Museum (Czech Republic) celebrates the 200th anniversary of its establishment. It was founded by a private society made up of a group of Czech aristocrats, whose leading light was Kašpar Maria, Count of Sternberg, a prominent figure in the natural sciences in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The collection and exhibition activities at the museum were made difficult over the long term by inadequate premises, and it was only at the end of the 19th century that a prestige building was constructed, and in the late 20th and early 21st centuries that it acquired modern modern collection depositories and research laboratories in a complex at Horní Počernice.
