V nížinné bažinné tundře jsou zvláštní kopcovité geomorfologické útvary zvané pingo. Vznikají pomalu několik tisíc let, proto lze na nich studovat velmi dlouhodobé sukcesní řady ekosystémů. Autor popisuje strukturu vegetace, typy půd a půdní faunu, hlavně chvostoskoky (Collembola), na pingu starém asi 2 500 až 3 500 let.

In Canadian lowland wetland tundra, there are significant hilly geomorphological features called pingos. These are slowly formed over thousands of years, so the long–term succession series of ecosystems can be studied there. The author describes the vegetation structure, soil types and soil fauna, particularly springtails (Collembola), on a pingo 2,500–3,500 years old.
