The species Ranunculus lingua with its golden flowers and main area of distribution in Central and Northern Europe is very peculiar to reed beds as well as other wetlands and gives the impression of abundance. However, more detailed study has revealed another aspect. In the Czech Republic, the historical data for this species are known from 310 localities, but the species has survived in only 40 localities. The species is not yet endangered, but the rapidity of this decline is alarming.
